Former Chief Justice David Kenani Maraga has declared his intention to run for the presidency in the 2027 elections under the United Green Movement Party.
The announcement came on Thursday during a high-profile event at the party’s headquarters in Nairobi, where Maraga outlined plans to popularise and strengthen the party ahead of the polls.

“I accepted the call to join this party because it aligns with my personal principles and ideologies on a wide range of matters. This includes matters on the rule of law, respect for human rights and democratic governance, among others,” Maraga said as he officially embraced the party’s colours at Green Action House.
He added, “I have committed to building and restoring the dignity of Kenyans as well as protecting our human rights,” signalling a platform centred on governance reforms and civic empowerment.
The United Green Movement Party is led by politician Neto Agostinho, who serves as co-party leader alongside other political figures.
Neto, who previously served as Member of Parliament for Ndhiwa Constituency, joined the party after leaving the Orange Democratic Movement, bringing with him a wealth of political experience from his tenure between September 2012 and August 2017.
